My Testimony

The Lord Was Near

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
An open Bible, ceramic mug, wooden cross, and olive branches in a sunlit home

My story with Jesus began at home.

Long before there was a podcast, a website, or a ministry called Heaven Meets Home, I was a little girl sitting with my dad as he told me about Jesus.

He shared John 3:16 with me and explained the Gospel—that God loved me so deeply that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save me.

I remember asking my dad if I could pray with him to receive Jesus as my personal Savior.

And there, in the simplicity of home, I gave my life to Christ.

I couldn’t have known then how significant that little detail would become.

Because years later, during one of the hardest seasons of my life, Jesus would meet me at home all over again.

Chapter one

A Season I Never Expected

In July of 2025, I discovered that I was pregnant with our second daughter.

Around the same time, my husband’s Air Force training was pushed back. On September 23, 2025, he left for Bootcamp.

What followed was a season I never would have chosen for myself.

I walked through most of my pregnancy and eventually the birth of our daughter without my husband physically beside me.

There were beautiful moments, but there were also lonely ones.

God graciously surrounded me with people who helped carry us. My parents helped care for my oldest daughter. My sweet brother and sister-in-law came alongside me, as did our church family.

And in March of 2026, I welcomed our precious baby girl into the world.

I was incredibly grateful.

But I was also exhausted.

I was freshly postpartum, caring for a newborn and a toddler, missing my husband, and carrying the physical and emotional weight of everything the previous year had held.

And it was there—in the middle of ordinary motherhood—that my understanding of God began to change.

In the ordinary

“There’s Jesus.”

One evening, I was standing at the changing table in our bathroom, getting my oldest daughter ready for bed.

It was completely ordinary. No church service. No worship music. No dramatic moment.Just a tired mama getting her little girl ready for bed.

Then, unexpectedly, she pointed behind me.

“There’s Jesus!”

I turned around, startled. “What are you talking about?”

She calmly and firmly repeated: “There’s Jesus.”

I couldn’t see what she said she saw, and I can’t tell you with certainty exactly what happened in that moment.

But I remember the extraordinary peace and strength I experienced during that season.

Something inside me was beginning to change.

I had known Jesus for years. I knew Scripture. I believed in God. But I was beginning to understand His presence in a way that felt deeply personal.

The God I had known about was showing me just how near He truly is.

A prayer of surrender

“Jesus, I Need You.”

When my husband finally returned home from training that spring, I thought life might begin settling down.

Instead, he returned immediately to his software job, and the paternity leave we had expected didn’t happen.

My father, who had been staying with us, left to spend time with his mother and siblings in Mexico.

Suddenly, I was essentially alone during the day with a toddler and a newborn while still trying to heal physically and emotionally.

Then my oldest daughter had a frightening fall down the stairs. It shook me.

Afterward, I walked into our sunroom and completely broke down. I sobbed.

“I need You. I can’t do this alone.”

It wasn’t an eloquent prayer. It was desperation. I had reached the end of myself.

And perhaps that was exactly where I needed to be.

The vision

The Cross

The following day, I woke from a mid-afternoon nap and experienced something I can only describe as a vision.

I saw a wooden cross. Jesus stood before it. His hands were bound. I saw the crown of thorns, the sweat on His forehead, and His blood-stained face.

But there was one detail I couldn’t stop thinking about.

His hands.

Although they were bound, He held them outward in surrender. He wasn’t resisting. He stood there willingly.

I was overwhelmed.

I thanked Him for what I had seen, but I was left with questions. Why were His hands bound? And why had I seen Jesus suffering rather than in His risen glory?

That same week, our pastor preached about the Lordship of Christ and spoke about Jesus being bound—and about the freedom that became ours through what Christ willingly endured.

I sat there stunned. Our pastor didn’t know what I had experienced.

But what affected me most wasn’t simply the similarity between the message and what I had seen.

It was what everything pointed back to: the Gospel.

The foundation

He Was Bound So We Could Be Free

Jesus Christ willingly went to the cross.

He bore our sin.

He took the punishment we deserved.

He suffered.

He died.

And on the third day, He rose again.

Today He is alive and seated at the right hand of the Father.

That is the foundation of my testimony.

Not visions. Not experiences. Not signs.

Jesus.

The crucified and risen Savior. The One who loved us enough to surrender Himself so that we could be reconciled to God.

And the more I began understanding the cross, the more I began understanding something else: God isn’t distant from our suffering.

Jesus knows suffering. He knows rejection. He knows betrayal. He knows grief. He knows physical pain.He knows what it is to weep.

Compassion in sorrow

The God Who Weeps With Us

Our difficult season didn’t immediately end.

My husband was unexpectedly laid off. My parents were walking through divorce. My brother was in and out of the hospital with Schizophrenia. I was grieving the loss of a sibling relationship. There was a fire that destroyed the barn at the family farm where I grew up; every animal was lost.

These were days filled with uncertainty and heartbreak.

And during that season, my daughter told me something else I will never forget. She said she saw Jesus crying in our living room.

Again, I can only faithfully share what my daughter told me.

But her words brought me back to one of the shortest—and perhaps most tender—verses in Scripture:

“Jesus wept.”

The God of the universe is not indifferent to our pain. He captures our tears. He draws near to the brokenhearted. He grieves with us when we hurt and rejoices with us in our victories.

He goes before us.He stands behind us.He walks beside us.

And He is our ever-present help in times of need.

Grace in everyday life

Why Would God Meet Me?

There is a question I still find myself asking: Why me?

Why would God reveal His heart so personally to an ordinary wife and mama like me?

My life wasn’t polished. My house wasn’t always clean.

Changing diapers.Folding laundry.Washing bottles.Comforting crying children.Reheating forgotten cups of coffee.Carrying grief, exhaustion, uncertainty, and unanswered questions.

It was messy. And maybe that is precisely what God wanted me to understand.

Jesus isn’t waiting for us only in extraordinary moments. He meets us in the ordinary.

Beside changing tables.In kitchens.In laundry rooms.During sleepless nights.In hospital rooms.In pregnancy.In postpartum.In marriage.In singleness.In motherhood.In grief.In waiting.In celebration.And when nobody else knows how desperately we need Him.

Where the ministry began

The Heart Behind Heaven Meets Home

Eventually, something began stirring in my heart.

I couldn’t stop thinking about everything God had been teaching me about His nearness.

I wanted other women to know Him this way.

Not merely to know about Jesus.

I wanted them to seek Him. To encounter Him through His Word. To know His character. To recognize His presence in the ordinary rhythms of their lives.

And one night when I couldn’t sleep, the idea began forming: a podcast, a ministry, a place where people could discover that Heaven isn’t far away.

And slowly, Heaven Meets Home was born.

Not because my life had finally become perfect. But because Jesus met me when it wasn’t.

This is my prayer for you

May You Leave Wanting More of Jesus

My prayer is that when you come here—whether you read a devotional, listen to the podcast, watch a video, or simply stop for a few minutes of encouragement—you don’t leave thinking primarily about me.

I pray you discover that He is not distant. That you are deeply loved. That He sees you. That He cares about what you’re carrying.

And that you don’t have to wait until life becomes easier, prettier, quieter, or more spiritual to seek Him.

Jesus wants to meet you in the season you’re in right now.

Bring Him the broken pieces.Bring Him your questions.Bring Him your grief.Bring Him your family.Bring Him your dreams.Bring Him the mundane.Bring Him your ordinary.

And allow the Holy Spirit, our Helper, to transform your heart and increasingly conform your life to the image of Christ.

Because the same Jesus who willingly went to the cross is the Jesus who rose from the grave.

He is alive.

He is Lord.

And He is still drawing people to Himself.

Heaven Meets Home

The Lord Is Near

I first came to know Jesus at home.

Years later, during one of the most difficult seasons of my life, I discovered His nearness at home all over again.

And perhaps that is the story behind this ministry in its simplest form:

Heaven Meets Home exists to remind you that the Lord is near—and that Jesus longs to meet you in the ordinary moments of everyday life.

So wherever you are today…

Seek Him.Call on Him.Open His Word.Ask Him to show you His heart.

You may discover that the place you thought was simply ordinary has become the very place where you encounter an extraordinary God.

The Lord is near.

Welcome home.
